How would you live your day if it was your last?
And I don’t mean what would you do, like, would you reach for the bucket list in the bottom drawer or go to bed and pull the blanket over your head.
I really mean how?
Would you drive to the shop or would you choose to walk, feeling every step on the familiar route there?
And if you choose to drive, will you enjoy your wait at the traffic lights?
Would you feel the wind and the sun and the rain on your skin?
Are you going to let your loved ones go past without hugging them?
Would you smile or scold?
Would you hold on to that grudge or let go?
We are unable to do this all the time, aren’t we?
I am unable. Being so aware of what’s around me and my reactions and responses to it. Of my immediate experience right now, having no past, no future. I can do it on the last day of the holiday, when it is joy and sadness in one big knot in my stomach. Or on a mountain top. In a new city. When I am seeing a loved one off, knowing I won’t see them soon or even ever. In front of a breathtaking nature display …
It’s more difficult to hold that awareness in the mundane, when I am passing by the same old wild flower patch nearby my home. But I truly believe it’s worth cultivating. It brings forward the textures and the colours and the pure joy of just being.
So I wish you to enjoy your summer as if it is your last. Even the annoying parts as there are to be some for sure.
Stay aware and full of joy and I am looking forward to seeing in September when all massages and yoga will resume.
