The reproductive system is a complex system of organs. In females, it includes the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, and vagina. It’s obvious that the health of the reproductive system is crucial for fertility and far less so how we can support in case of fertility issues.
Fertility yoga incorporates specific poses designed to stimulate the reproductive system primarily through:
- Increased Blood Flow: Adequate blood flow to the reproductive organs is essential for optimal function. Increased blood flow delivers vital nutrients, oxygen, and hormones to the ovaries, uterus, and fallopian tubes. This can support healthy egg development, ovulation, and the transport of the egg through the fallopian tubes.
Gentle inversion poses like Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose encourage increased blood circulation to the pelvic region. This improved blood flow nourishes the reproductive organs (ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes) with essential nutrients and oxygen, potentially optimising their function. - Improved lymphatic drainage: Proper fluid circulation supports a healthy immune system. A robust immune system is crucial for protecting the reproductive organs from infections and other health issues that can negatively impact fertility.
The lymphatic system removes toxins and waste products from the body. Gentle internal massage-like actions created by poses like Locust Pose can stimulate lymphatic drainage in the pelvic region. This can help to maintain a healthy environment for the reproductive organs.
Here are some more yoga poses that may support the health of the reproductive system:
- Hip Openers:
- Butterfly Pose (Baddha Konasana): This pose can help make more space in the hips and groin, improving blood flow to the pelvic organs.
- Reclining Bound Angle Pose (Supta Baddha Konasana): A deeper hip opener that can also promote relaxation.
- Gentle Backbends:
- Bridge Pose (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana): This pose can help to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and improve blood flow to the reproductive organs.
- Twists:
- Seated Spinal Twist (Ardha Matsyendrasana): Gentle twists can help to massage the abdominal organs and potentially improve digestion and elimination.
