Massage during pregnancy can offer a variety of benefits, both physical and emotional:

  • Reduced body aches and pains: Pregnancy brings many changes to your body, including a shift in your center of gravity and weight gain, which can lead to back pain, sciatica, and muscle tension. Massage can help to relieve these aches and pains by relaxing muscles and improving circulation.
  • Decreased stress and anxiety: The hormonal changes of pregnancy, along with the anticipation and adjustments of becoming a parent, can sometimes cause stress and anxiety. Massage can help to lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and promote relaxation, leading to improved mood and reduced anxiety.
  • Improved sleep: Many pregnant women experience difficulty sleeping due to discomfort, anxiety, or hormonal changes. Massage can help to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality.
  • Reduced swelling: Fluid retention is common during pregnancy, which can cause swelling in the feet and ankles. Massage can help to improve lymphatic drainage and reduce swelling.
  • Enhanced mood: Massage can stimulate the release of endorphins, which are natural mood boosters. This can help to improve overall mood and reduce symptoms of depression.
  • Improved circulation: Massage can help to improve blood flow, which is beneficial for both the mother and the baby. Increased circulation ensures that the baby receives adequate oxygen and nutrients.

Thai yoga massage doesn’t use oils that can irritate sensitive skin and can be done in full in a side-lying position which is comfortable for both mum and baby. Thai massage is a gentle and powerful practice that facilitates deep relaxation, enhances breathing, improves sleep and helps with body awareness and grounding. In addition, it can also help alleviate pregnancy related ailments such as:

  • Water retention
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Back, shoulder and neck pain

Massage is generally not recommended during the first trimester.

Sessions can be 1h, 1.5h and 2h long.

Please wear loose clothes that allow free movement.

I work in my home studio in Streatham Wells.
